Official Statement from Dark Sky Homer
Condemning Anonymous Threatening Letter to Town Supervisor
Dark Sky Homer unequivocally condemns the anonymous and threatening letter recently sent to Town Supervisor Michael Park.
This letter does not represent our organization, our values, or the hundreds of residents who have respectfully and openly expressed their opposition to the proposed billboard legislation. From the beginning, Dark Sky Homer has conducted its advocacy with transparency, integrity, and respect for the democratic process. Every petition, public comment, and letter we have submitted has been signed by name.
We reject intimidation and threats in all forms. They have no place in this conversation and no place in our community.
We call on all residents—whether for or against the billboards—to maintain a standard of civil discourse. This debate is about the future of our town, and it must be carried out with the honesty and decency that Homer deserves.
We remain committed to open, peaceful, and constructive engagement.

A municipality can regulate the time, place, and manner of advertisements, it typically cannot regulate the content of the advertisement unless there's a significant justification related to public welfare, safety, or another major concern.
If the Town Board changes the zoning to allow off-site advertising, they will not have the authority to control the content of the billboards. Businesses, political candidates, and social activism groups that you may not agree with and find distasteful, will be able to advertise in your community, without having to actually be a part of your community.
