Help with the legal challenge.

One of our supporters took it upon themselves to find a lawyer and cover the initial retainer. This fund will first repay them, and then help cover future expenses related to keeping electronic billboards and off site advertising out of Homer.

This does not relate to electronic message centers used at the locations of businesses and organizations in the village. For example; schools and churches.

 FAQs

  • The initial retainer is $7,500.

  • At the moment their identity is being kept private. The lawyer has been directed to represent our shared cause and does not have other business with the person who hired them to help us fight the billboards.

  • To be honest we first need to see how the Board responds on the 29th. We don’t expect them to close the issue, but if they do we won’t need much of the lawyers help. The lawyer will refund monies not used from the retainer then this fund will help the individual who fronted the retainer recoup expenses above what they are comfortable donating to the cause. If there is significant funds left over we will refund them to the individual donors based on their initial donation. For example if this whole process cots $2,000, total donations are $5,000 and you gave $500 (10% of total donations); we would return to you 10% of the remainder ($300). At the moment this is our plan, but we need to be ready for just about anything from the Board.

  • Right now we do not want to accept more than $10,000. We should have a good idea if the challenge will cost more in the next few weeks.

  • Short answer is that we will not share it. There is a really simple reason, to protect the privacy of the donors and the individual who fronted the fund. As we progress though this, and if people need to see the accounting, we will figure out a way to share the expenses that still protects priovacy.
